Synth Toms Mean Action
I grew up watching a lot of action adventure serials in the 80s and 90s that featured the latest synth technologies of the time filling in for the much more elaborate orchestrations of higher budget productions. Blissfully, groundbreaking composers like Brad Fiedel showed that you could do this without making it sound hokey, by playing to strengths of the modern instruments. You’ll hear a lot of his influence in this pulse-racing action sequence.
Whackin’ and Samplin’
My partner may not be a musician, but he loves percussion instruments. These “Boom Whackers”, plastic tuned percussion instruments, are among his collection. I decided to clip a lapel microphone directly to them and grab a few crisp, clear samples. With a note progression inspired by a #transanfan‘s name converted to notes, this up-tempo tune was born.
The Seventh String
Ever rub your finger lightly along the rim of a glass? That musical tone becomes the basis of this tunes lead arpeggiator, a swirling loop of rising and falling tones sprinkled with light bells and supported by a perky bass. Special thanks to Greg for inspiring the key signature and title!
Swurlitzer Roundabout
A pulsing arpeggiator gives way to vintage 70s Wurlitzer piano wrapped in soft synth strings with sporadic synth-vox accents.
