I grew up watching a lot of action adventure serials in the 80s and 90s that featured the latest synth technologies of the time filling in for the much more elaborate orchestrations of higher budget productions. Blissfully, groundbreaking composers like Brad Fiedel showed that you could do this without making it sound hokey, by playing to strengths of the modern instruments.
